Smile is a new minimally invasive technique that has a number of advantages compared to other laser vision correction procedures. While other procedures involve cutting a flap and using an excimer laser to remove corneal tissue, SMILE utilizes the VisuMax high-precision femtosecond laser to create a lenticule and access incision inside the intact cornea in a single step. Once the lenticule is removed the shape of the cornea is changed and the desired refraction is achieved.
