A vacancy exists for a Services Artisan, reporting to the Nursing Services / Operational Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing and maintaining a hygienic and safe patient/workplace environment and to ensure availability of resources (equipment, materials and consumables) in the facility at all times.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Critical Outputs
- Complete minor repair work, which includes repairing doors, locks, door frames and handles as well as replacing light bulbs, sockets, switches. etc
- Perform basic plumbing tasks, which includes unclogging drains as well as fixing leaking faucets and toilets.
- Performing, supervising and maintaining paint work in the facility.
- Inspecting control panels and electrical wiring to detect any issues that require immediate attention.
- Stock control of maintenance supplies and ordering of low or depleted supplies.
- Maintaining electrical equipment allocated to the technical department.
- Promptly responding to requests for emergency repairs and clean-ups.
- Perform routine inspections of facility as delegated by management and address any unreported Maintenance defects.
Planned maintenance
Arrange quotes and schedule planned maintenance and repairs of:
- electrical reticulation
- air-conditioning
- generators
- UPS
- Compressors and vacuum pumps,
- emergency water and fire supply system
- legionella testing of water supply within the facility
- gas bank
- nurse call system
- security system
- early warning & evacuation system
- medical equipment in wards and theatre
Manage the filing system for all service reports
Manage on-site contractors
- Specifications on work to be carried out are established and communicated to contractors
- Contractors are informed of internal hospital procedures
- Work completed by contractors are monitored, approved, and signed off
- Hand-over documentation & commissioning report are accurate
Risk Control
- Safe working procedures are adhered to
- Areas & facilities are left clean and functional
Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent level of education.
- Practical experience in a hospital environment or similar environment is essential.
- Computer proficiency
- Valid driver’s license
Qualifications and Experience
- N3 plus National trade certificate (Electrical)
- 3-5 years’ hospital industry plant, after completion of the apprenticeship program.
- Recognised wireman’s licence preferred
- Knowledge and experience with UPS and generators
- Knowledge and application of Occupational Health and Safety act and other relevant regulatory requirements

We are seeking a dedicated Ward Administrator to promote improved operational performance and patient care experience through quality delivery of services and patient interaction, by subscribing to the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The overall responsibility of the Ward Administrator is the efficient coordination of specific activities in the unit, under the direct supervision and guidance of the Unit Manager. The primary function being effective patient flow, stock management and administrative and secretarial duties, whilst adhering to the policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of Johannesburg Eye Hospital.
Warmly and professionally welcoming all new patients, doctors, and visitors to the Eye ward.
Coordinating day-to-day administrative and secretarial tasks to ensure smooth operations.
Supporting stock management and stock billing in the ward in collaboration with the Unit Manager as the stock controller.
Upholding patient confidentiality and adhering to hospital policies and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Education:
Matric (Grade 12)
A qualification in Business Administration and/or Secretarial Studies will be advantageous.
Work Experience:
2 to 3 years of proven experience in an administrative or secretarial role, in a healthcare setting.
Skills and Knowledge:
Strong computer literacy is essential.
Knowledge of Clinic Manager or similar hospital information systems is an advantage.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Professionalism, empathy, and the ability to work under pressure.

We are seeking a dedicated Acting Unit Manager to promote improved operational performance and patient care experience through quality delivery of services and patient interaction, by subscribing to the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The overall responsibility of the Unit Manager is the efficient supervision and direction of all activities and related activities of the Unit, with the primary management function being effective patient care whilst adhering to the policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of Johannesburg Eye Hospital.
• Management and supervision of theatre and CSSD employees.
• Management of Patient Care.
• Public Relations which include liaison with doctors/specialists, hospital management, staff,
patients and their families.
• Cost Centre Management which includes control of equipment and stock.
• Management of aspects pertaining staff in-service training.
• Maintaining of high Nursing standards.
• The ability to take prompt action to accomplish work objectives.
• The ability to produce work of a high quality by accurately checking processes and tasks.
• The ability to work under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications: Diploma or degree in General Nursing.
A minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in a managerial/ shift leader position with a proven track record would be advantageous.
Relevant theatre qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years practical experience as a Registered Nurse in a theatre environment, employed as a scrub nurse or unit manager.
An intermediate level of Computer proficiency
3 or more years’ experience in a private hospital setting
Experience in clinical leadership.
Knowledge
• Thorough knowledge of general / specialized nursing theory and practice
• Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices in a specialised field.
